Oh no ... all those stuff ...
Inspired by a post of Linuxchic (Making the best of my valuable time) and especially by the
If you have any tips on managing content, resources, and time I would love to hear them. Likewise, if I find a better solution to my manic multitasking I will share that with you as well.
question I decided to write a little how I (try) to make the best of my time.
I guess the most important thing to go is have one procedure and stick to it. I use a method called GTD - Getting Things Done by David Allen. Don't feel impressed by "National Bestseller" and the whole GTD imperium (lots of people think of GTD more as a religion than a "tool-set") get the procedure you like and stick to it.
"if something takes less than 2 minutes => DO IT!" advice.
Of course next to a procedure also some tools come handy.
Personally (next to some others) I mainly use this:
Freemind
A free open source Mindmapper which can be operated w/o a mouse (mostly).
Remember the Milk
A web 2.0 application which allows me to synch my to-do's with:
GMail, Outlook and (best of all) my iPod Touch and my Windows Mobile (after having a pro account)
Google Notebook (Google Bookmarks)
for scrabbling notes & bookmarks
D3 - a "kinkless" GTD system
a wiki in single HTML file (based on TiddlyWiki) which supports the GTD method (open source)
Please have in mind that my tools might not fit your personal style - everyone has to find his/her own method all I can do with this post is (hopefully) point you in the right direction.
Summarizing my advice would be:
- get a method
- apply it regulary (have fixed time to - for example - process your IN-stacks)
- maybe you like to try some of the tools I mentioned, but beware it takes time to master them
- if it's under two minutes - do it ;)
Update 2008-02-26:
There is now a second post to this topic too on my blog.

I send my self mails with the subject "fup: Something" which are automatically labeled "follow up" and archived. Later on I process those mails.
