After I posted my www.geocaching.com down, I noticed that others on Vox also had some posts:
Another click on the "play" button and I was led to:
***CLICK*** and I ended up with a google warning:
Thank you Google. You saved my day.
Well, in fact maybe my Internet Guard ***could*** have saved me from some malicious programs but its nice Big G also has a look ;)
So always be aware - if something bigger happens there are people out there who try to get their profit from big news...
PM: Might also be a false warning *but* better one warning too much than one less.
Lately (after I reinstalled my chat client), GAIM is my personal favorite,
I have been curious and took a peek into Gaims settings, stored in an XML file.
What must I see - my passwords stored in PLAIN TEXT :(
Well, I am pretty sure the note it somewhere in the documentation BUT thats not really state of the art ...
The fine folks from firefox used a different approach.
Whatever, what do we learn ?
a) CHECK how passwords are stored throughout different application (if you can find them in three minutes in plaintext it might be a bad idea to use that convinience feature)
b) get good passwords - "mypassword", is not so good - just search - there are plenty of hints out there
c) if you use stronger passwords you might find a tool like the Password Safe of security guru Bruce Schneier handy.
Have fun, and don't think all people in the net want YOUR PERSONAL password - but why give it away for free ?
